Flood Control
Even if you live miles away from a shoreline, floods can still occur for numerous reasons, imperiling your home, business, and goods. Our goal at Alliance is to protect developed areas from the harmful effects of standing water, while still maintaining the integrity of the surrounding ecology.
Alliance uses a comprehensive approach to retaining and redirecting water that involves considering all avenues of control as well as the effects of each both during and after a major flood.
Dams & Reservoir Construction
Alliance’s decades of experience working with water, sewer, and flood control, make us experts in water management and protection. Our engineers can work with city, state, and other local governments to design and build dams and reservoirs for the purpose of controlling water flow and preventing floods along major rivers and lakes.
Where a dam is either not possible or not desirable, weirs – river barriers that change the water flow – are also an alternative solution that our teams at Alliance can work with you to achieve.
Diversion Ditches & Holding Ponds
Diversion ditches channel overflow water into a manmade lake called a holding pond as the water level reaches pre-flood conditions. Our teams can both design and construction these solutions, protecting residences and businesses along the shoreline from the most commonly-occuring flood situations.
One Our Past Flood Control Projects
Levee Construction
Levees are permanent flood-protection measures built by piling earth higher than both the nearby body of water and the flood plain it is designed to protect. These systems are common along the Mississippi and our teams at Alliance are skilled in the placement and construction of such features, not only in regard to maximizing their physical protection from floodwaters, but also of protecting the surrounding environment from the effects of erosion through geocells for soil stabilization.
Combined “Smart” Sewers
Although as a water and sewer contractor, Alliance does not recommend the construction of combined sewers, the reality is that some communities have them that cannot at this time replace them. When heavy rains come, the increased water flow can often cause these types of sewer systems to overflow, creating flooding that carries with it the added complication of unsanitary waste. To prevent this, Alliance can modify existing sewer infrastructure to include smart technology, such as wifi-enabled gates and pumps that can respond to changing conditions and divert the waterflow accordingly. This helps reduce the chances of flooding in the most commonly-occurring scenarios.
